We're teaching the teachers of the future.

Virtual professional development and focused observation sessions to support teachers to deliver the coding expectations that have been added to the Ontario curriculum. Teachers will learn from professional creators (engineers, game-developers, and app developers) working in the industry how to teach students to code applications and computer games in an engaging way!

Program Overview

Template Plan Approach: We work with each individual teacher to structure the program to best fit their needs.

Summary of outcomes: The program aims to focus on the individual needs of new teachers by providing professional learning, mentoring & focused observation.

Professional Development: Providing teachers with 1:1 professional development where one of our instructors works with the educator over a video conference to teach the new coding concepts that have been added to the Ontario

Focused Observation: The CreationCamp program teaches students all of the Ontario coding expectations relevant to the classroom grade level. The sessions are live & virtual. Teachers will learn how to teach the coding expectations in an engaging way through focused observation. In the sessions, professional creators (App developers, engineers & game-developers) working in the software industry, will teach students how to code applications, computer games & prototypes of real world technological innovations. On top of this the program aims to introduce students to various engaging career pathways that utilize coding in their day to day professions. The CreationCamp program's pedagogical approach is centered around project based learning, 21st century skills and global competencies. Students will learn design thinking frameworks, entrepreneurial mindset, growth mindset and many other skills. Students will be brought through the experiential learning framework to build out their very own computer games and applications.

Progam Goals

Coding C3.1 - Solve problems and create computational representations of mathematical situations by writing and executing efficient code, including code that involves events influenced by a defined count and/or sub-program and other control structures.

Coding C3.2 - Read and alter existing code involving the analysis of data in order to inform and communicate decisions, and describe how changes to the code affect the outcomes and the efficiency of the code.

Social Emotional Learning A1 - apply, to the best of their ability, a variety of social-emotional learning skills to support their use of the mathematical processes and their learning in connection with the expectations in the other five strands of the mathematics curriculum.

21st Century Skills - An understanding of different career paths that use 21st century skills in their roles. A deeper understanding of how the Ontario  curriculum connects to real world experience

Global Competencies - Students will learn:

critical thinking and problem solving

innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship

learning to learn/self-awareness and self-direction

global citizenship and sustainability

Professional development on all coding expectations

Focused observation of coding taught virtually with a focus on student engagement

Data and rubrics to conduct assessments of student learning in all expectations.

Teachers will learn more about students' career and topical interests and be provided activities to further engage students.

Additional Details

Who will be teaching?

Our education team is made up of OCTs, engineers, app developers and game developers.

More than just Ontario curriculum aligned;

Pathway Connections - Students will develop a deeper understanding of the skill sets used in the careers they were interested in from the Career Pathways lesson.

Experiential Learning - Students will understand how to code and design a computer game and be able to use this skill set outside of the classroom, in order to build and play games that align with their own interests.

Global Competencies - Students will exemplify global competencies and be introduced to 21st century skills, including; growth mindset, empathy, entrepreneurial mindset and design thinking.
